Three Little Pigs - Brick House

Medium: Illustration done by sketching and computer scanning

I took a Children's Book Illustration class at Herron with Kathy O'Connel. The project was to redesign a children's book. We had to make a mock up book and then go from there.

I chose the Three Little Pigs. Most of us I think already are familiar with the story. There were three little pigs. One built a house out of straw; the other one out of sticks and the last little pig built his house out of bricks. Then the Big Bad Wolf comes and says "Little Pig, Little Pig let me in!" Then the pigs say "Not, by the hair of my chinny chin chin. Then the wolf says then I will huff and puff and blow your house down.

In my version I chose to make the three little pigs more modern. They would have all the technologies that we have today. This would include gadgets such as cell phones and computers.

In this Illustration we see the brick home of the third little pig. If you will notice that a 3 and a P are built into the iron rod gates. I purposely put them there to represent the story title. However, I don't think the viewer notices them at first glance.

There is a modern day city in the background and a plane flying over head. This gives it a more modern day twist and feel to it. The illustration was sketched out by pencil. Then I scanned it into the computer where I applied some texture and color to it. I used a program called Photoshop.
